I am a CNRS researcher working on the interface between physics and biology at LOCEAN (equipe PEPS). My main work concerns the role of the ocean (sub)mesoscale turbulence (~10-100 kms, days to weeks) in structuring marine ecosystems and biodiversity in the global oceans. I try in particular to identify general physical mechanisms (chaotic transport, mixing, segregation..) and features (fronts, eddies, filaments,..) that form the invisible landscape to which the life and behavior of marine organisms has to adapt. In order to achieve this, I use tools and concepts from nonlinear dynamics and dynamical system theory. The data that I use include satellite observations (ocean currents, dominant phytoplanktonic types), tracks of tagged marine mammals (like whales and elephant seals), and in situ observations.

MSc grants: we usually have 1-3 grants per year. We do not set a specific subject, but the theme is decided together with the applicant. If you are interested, do not hesitate to contact me.
